KB16679: How can users confirm that Project Mover completed without any issues when initializing MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager

Community Admin

• Strategy

When a user wants to confirm whether Project Mover completed without any issues when initializing MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager, the administrator should follow the contained steps.

When a user wants to confirm whether Project Mover completed without any issues when initializing Strategy Enterprise Manager, the following steps should be followed:

  • First of all, the user should check that the machine from which the transfer ran has the correct drivers and DSN's for the Strategy Enterprise Manager Metadata and warehouse databases.
  • The user should make sure that EM_Proj_MD.mdb and EM_WH.mdb were selected as the source files for the Strategy Enterprise Manager Metadata and warehouse, as shown below:

  •
Note: Users should make sure the 'Run a SQL Script on the Warehouse' box is checked, otherwise the user will not be prompted to run the 'em_sql*.sql' after the warehouse transfer. This script will create a set of configuration tables without which the data loading process cannot be run.

  • The user should verify that the check box to run the script after the warehouse transfer is checked. Make sure that the correct script for the relevant database is selected by first clicking the browse (…) button on the right side, as shwon below:

  •
Note: If the user selects the incorrect em_sql*.sql script to run, the tables with the information for the data loading process will be created incorrectly and an error will received after the data load.

  • The user should check that the em_sql*.sql ran successfully and that the tables were created and populated correctly. The user can use the following SQL script to verify the number of SQL statements in the table:
    SELECT count (*) FROM EM_SQL;
  • Note: This table (EM_SQL) contains the SQL needed for the data loading process so the above query should return a nonzero number.

  • The user should make sure that the correct DSN's were selected for the Strategy Enterprise Manager Metadata and warehouse. This DSN's selected should have been the same DSN's that were confirmed to exist in step 1, as shown below:

  • Users should run the following SQL statements against their Strategy Enterprise Manager warehouse to check that some of the warehouse tables have been created correctly:
    SELECT * FROM dt_day
  • This query should return ten years worth of days.

    SELECT * FROM is_rep_fact
  • This query should return no data but the query should succeed.

    SELECT * FROM em_props
  • The query should return a couple of rows worth of data.

  • Users should check the EMProjectMover.log file to see if any Project Mover related errors are found in it. The log file can be found under /Program Files/MicroStrategy/Administrator/Enterprise Manager or /Program Files/MicroStrategy/Enterprise Manager .
  • Finally, users should try to log-in to the Strategy Enterprise Manage project within Strategy Desktop and browse through some of the folders checkng that there are objects inside.

If users are able to complete all these steps without finding any errors or missing data, this should be a good indication that everything went through correctly during the Project Mover process.
