This article describes how to create a rolling month transformation filter in MicroStrategy

To create a rolling month transformation filter, which will allow a user to select a month and will then filter values based on the the inputted number of months before it, do the following:
1. Create an attribute element prompt for Month. This will allow users to select which month to roll back from.

2. Create an advanced filter qualification that is month_ID < attribute element prompt from step one. This will grab all of the months prior to the month selected in the prompt.  The advanced qualification is syntax is below:
Sample Code/Error
applycomparison("#0 < #E1",month@id,?[month_prompt])

3. Create a Metric that is max(Month_ID) this counts the number of months before the month selected in the prompt.

4. Create a report with the month attribute, the max(Month_ID) metric, and the advanced filter qualification.

5. Place a report limit on the report by navigating to Data --> Report Data Options--> report limit . The report limit is a rank and the value is the number of months to roll back. This is used to limit the returned months to the desired number. For example, a 6 month rolling filter would have a rank of 6.

6. Use this new report as a report as filter to roll back the number of months in the report limit based on the users input.
