Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
SYMPTOM
Smart metric defined with "missing metric from dataset" will consider the missing metric as NULL and return NULL row in Dossier when using Connect Live mode. However, when used as In-Memory mode, the smart metric considers the missing metric as 0s, and return data as shown below:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In Strategy tutorial, create an In-Memory cube using the LU_MONTH and MNTH_CATEGORY_SLS tables.
2. Create a Dossier using the In-Memory cube as dataset.
3. Create a derived metric 'DM01 = [Tot Dollar Sales]-[Tot Cost], and add to template.
4. Save and Close Dossier
5. Edit the In-Memory cube and remove [Tot Cost] (right-click on the metric and choose 'Do Not Import') metric from the LU_MONTH table and update the cube.
6. Re-run the Dossier, notice DM01 still return data even if [Tot Cost] metric is missing in the dataset.

7. Change the data access mode of the cube from In-Memory to Connect Live, DM01 return NULL and the CSI shows [Tot Cost] as 'missing'

CAUSE
This is a known issue in Strategy 10.11 or below release where smart metric defined with "missing metrics from dataset" is considered as 0s for In-Memory mode instead of NULL.
ACTION
This issue is fixed in Strategy 11.0, missing metrics from dataset should always be considered as NULL at all time to maintain data integrity. Starting in Strategy 11.0, smart metric defined with "missing metrics from dataset" will return NULL in both Connect Live, and In-Memory mode.
If you are upgrading to Strategy 11.0 or above, to pick up the fix, enable project level setting "Data Engine Version" to 11. This property can only be enabled through Workstation. For more details on enabling the setting, refer to Change Data Engine Version.

The Strategy Internal Reference Number for the issue discussed in this technical note is KB441510 and DE76765.
