KB45607: A graph legend does not act as a selector for Flash Mode in MicroStrategy Web 9.3.1

SYMPTOM:
In Flash mode, in addition to its main function, a graph legend can also act as a selector of itself in Strategy Web 9.2.1. However, in Strategy Web 9.3.1, when an item from the legend is selected, the graph is not filtered according to the selection even though it was configured correctly as shown below.
 

Clicking on an element of Year (2010, 2011, 2012) in the legend, does not filter the graph and it still shows all 3 bars for each element of Region.
 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow these steps to reproduce the issue in a Strategy Tutorial Project::

• Create a report with the attributes Year and Region and the Cost metric.
• Create a blank document and add the report as a dataset.
• Add a panel stack to the document.
• Add the report to the panel stack as a grid.
• Change the View Mode to graph.
• Select the graph and expand the "Graph Zones" option like shown below.
  

• Move Year from “Categories” to “Series” as shown below.
  

• Configure Year as selector of the same graph as shown below.
  

• Select the panel stack as the target for the selector as shown below.
  

• Run the graph in Flash mode.
• Notice the legend contains an entry of each metric once per each Year value, as shown below.
  

• In Strategy Web 9.2.1 Flash mode, click on an item from the Year legend to observe the graph is filtered by the element as shown below.
  

• In Strategy Web 9.3.1 Flash mode, click on an item from the Year legend to observe the graph is not filtered by the element.
  

 
CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Web 9.3.1.
 
ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.
 
WORKAROUND:
By moving the attribute used as selector below "Metric" as shown below, the legends will work properly as selector:

 
Alternatively, the user can still click on the graph bars to perform the selection instead of using the legend.
Note: Since the graph is targeting itself, it is not possible to revert back from an initial selection to the full display to select a different element, other than re-running the document.
