KB47388: Option to enable subtotal display for a Custom group at the report level is not available in MicroStrategy Web

SYMPTOM:
When running a report in Strategy Web 9.x with a custom group on the template, after enabling subtotals to display for the grid, users will notice that no totals display. This is caused by subtotals for the custom group object being disabled at the report level. However, there is no option for the user to enable custom group subtotals at the report level in Strategy Web.
 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

• Access the Customer Segmentation by Value report which uses the Customers Value Banding custom group in the Strategy Tutorial Project in Strategy Web.
• Enable subtotals to display for the grid as seen below.
• However, notice that no totals display on the report as seen below.

• This is caused by subtotals for the custom group Customers Value Banding being disabled at the report level. However, exploring all the formatting options for the report confirms that there is no setting in Strategy Web to enable this.

 
CAUSE:
This issue  is working as designed. The option to enable subtotals for custom group objects at the report level is not exposed in Strategy Web 9.x. 
 
ACTION:
Currently this issue is being reviewed by Strategy for a potential code level fix on an upcoming Strategy release. Follow the workaround below to mitigate the issue.
 
WORKAROUND:
To enable subtotals to display for custom group objects at the report level, this option must be enabled in Strategy Desktop. Follow the steps below to do this:
1. Access the Customer Segmentation by Value report in Design view in Strategy Desktop.
2. Go  Data > Report Data Options > Calculations > Subtotals menu and Select 'Yes' for Allow Subtotals for the custom group object as seen below.
 
3. Once this is enabled subtotals will display for the custom group in Strategy Web as seen below.
 
ADDITIONAL TROUBLESHOOTING:
If the workaround steps above do not resolve the issue, please consider calling Strategy tech support with the following information of troubleshooting already done:

• Results of testing with a new custom group object and new report
• Results or output of following the above workaround steps.
