Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
1. How did you get into the technology field?
I was always drawn to problem solving and numbers, so I have always focused on the math/science space. When I graduated from faculty in engineering, I was drawn to the Business Intelligence field, which helps enterprises get answers to their business questions. My Strategy experience started by luck—I didn't hear of Strategy until I was involved with a big project for a customer in Southeast Asia. While planning the high level design, the customer asked if we could deliver the project with Strategy. During the tool selection phase, I realized that MSTR had a much better score than any other tool in the list. Fast forward 10 years—I still think it is the most powerful tool in the market, and it keeps evolving each year—it's never boring with Strategy.
2. What’s your favorite part of Community?
I like the Discussions area—it's like helping complete strangers with their problems. Every once in a while, a lawyer can take on a "pro bono" case; as for us, we can do that almost as much as we want, whenever we want (the Community site is always online). It's a way to give back to the community—all of us ask questions when we need—even if we give only a portion of it back.
3. What’s your favorite topic to write about?
That’s a tough question. I like many topics, and it changes according to the projects I'm currently involved with (sometimes, when I'm deeply invested in the administration side, I enjoy answering dossiers- and application objects-related questions, but when I’m invested more in front-end, I like to answer schema and administration questions). This way, you can always stay in shape and not get rusty with things you don't do on a daily basis.
4. Name one feature you would like to add to Community.
I think that the Community has improved a lot since when I first joined with the old site. There was a time when you got badges for various operations (first response to the thread in the Community, 1 or 5 or 20 or 100 answers on the Community, number of ideas, etc.). However, at some phase, it stopped, and I think that lowered the involvement of users a little. I think it would be great if this little gamification came back.
(Note from the Community team—this interview was conducted before we re-introduced badges to the Community.)
5. Why Strategy (as a product)?
I've checked Strategy as a customer (without Gartner MQ , only the points relevant to the project I was involved with), and it scored #1 . Ever since, I haven't seen it lose based on product score—politically, it might lose, but never technically. The company keeps investing in the product, and it keeps evolving to the point that it now really has every flavour of BI: Dossiers for self-service, RSD for printed specials, and HyperIntelligence for zero-click BI, in addition to the best schema model engine and best administration. I believe this is more than enough to love the platform.
