KB485775: A blank page is returned when authenticating using SAML with Azure MFA and MicroStrategy Workstation 2021 August – October releases on Windows OS

Pascal Deguine

Principal Product Specialist • Strategy

This KB article describes an issue preventing users from authenticating with SAML authentication using MicroStrategy Workstation 2021 August through to October releases. With a specific SAML IDP configuration, MicroStrategy Workstation renders a blank page instead of the login page.

Symptom

When a user attempts to connect to Strategy Library using Workstation 2021 and SAML authentication, the IDP login page remains blank.

This behaviour affects users with Strategy Workstation 2021 releases released in August through to October and is specific to Workstation for Windows OS.
The Workstation log file will show an entry like:

ERROR Error ERR_SSL_CLIENT_AUTH_CERT_NEEDED while loading https://device.login.microsoftonline.com/?request=rQQIARAA42K....with error code SslClientAuthCertNeeded --Workstation.View.Widgets.WebBrowserUserControl

Cause

This issue is caused by a defect in the underlying browser framework used by Strategy Workstation to render resources such as the SAML IDP login page.

Action

This issue has been addressed with Strategy Workstation 2021 November release (22.11). Upgrade to take advantage of the fix.

Workaround

Temporarily enable an alternative authentication mode for Strategy Library such as Standard Authentication.
