KB440309: “A connection to Web Services at ‘xxx' could not be established: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send. Do you want to connect to a different Web Services URL?” warning appears in MicroStrategy Office

SYMPTOM:
When attempting to make a connection from Strategy Office Client to Strategy Web Services 10.x URL, the following error is displayed:

A connection to Web Services at
'http://xxxxxxxxx/StrategyWS/mstrws.asmx' could not be established: 'Unable to connect to the remote server'. Do you want to connect to a different Web Services URL?

1. Open Strategy Office and go to Options > General > Server.
2. Enter the Strategy Web Services url: https://xxxxxxxxx/StrategyWS/services/MSTRWSJ.
3. Test the connection to Strategy Web Services. An error appears: A connection to Web Services at 'http://xxxxxxxxx/StrategyWS/mstrws.asmx' could not be established: 'Unable to connect to the remote server'. Do you want to connect to a different Web Services URL?

 
CAUSE:
This is an identified defect in Strategy Web. This error message is due to the Strategy Office Client not using TLS 1.2.
ACTION:
This issue has been addressed in Strategy 2020 Update 2. Upgrade to this version to take advantage of this fix.
WORKAROUND:
Add SchUseStrongCrypto key to DWORD with Hexadecimal value 1 to the following two locations on the Strategy Office 10.x Client Machine where the Strategy Office 10.x Plug-In is installed:

1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NetFramework\v4.0.30319
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NetFramework\v4.0.30319
