KB484842: Adding a hierarchical attribute to the grid causes one hierarchy to collapse and the other one to automatically expand for dossiers based on MDX in MicroStrategy 2020 and 2021

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description 

For dossiers based on MDX data sources with hierarchical attributes, hierarchies inconsistently collapse and expand after adding attributes into the grid. For example, after adding Attribute A from Hierarchy B to the grid, Hierarchy B collapses and another one automatically expands.

Steps to reproduce 

• Create a dossier by selecting an MDX cube. 
  

• Expand one hierarchy ("Account") and double-click one of the attributes ("Account"). The attribute is added to the grid. 
  

• Collapse the first hierarchy and expand another one ("Customer").
  

• Add an additional attribute ("Address"). The second hierarchy automatically collapses and the first one expands again. 
  

Why is this happening?

This is an identified defect in Strategy 2020 and 2021.

Solution

This issue has been fixed in Strategy 2021 Update 4, please upgrade to take advantage of the fix.

Workaround

Create dossiers by opening an empty dossier and importing the dataset directly into the dossier, instead of selecting the cube.
