KB483862: After upgrading to MicroStrategy 2019, a vertical scrollbar appears in a panel stack

• Strategy

This article explains why, after upgrading to MicroStrategy 2019, a vertical scrollbar appears in a panel stack. This article also provides a way to resolve the issue.

In Strategy 2019, a new workflow was introduced for zoom calculating and communication between the client side and the Intelligence Server. The optimization doubles the rendering performance for documents to Fit to Width and Fit to Page modes and improves zooming precision.
After upgrading to Strategy 2019, you may notice that a vertical scrollbar appears in a panel stack. This occurs due to the newly introduced optimization mechanism to scale the contents of a document to Fit to Width and Fit to Page rendering in Presentation Mode.

How to Hide Scrollbar in Panel Stack

To hide the scrollbar, it is recommended to update the document by setting the property Content Overflow to Clip in the panel stack.

  1. Open the document in the Document Editor.
  2. Right-click the panel stack to modify and select Properties.
  3. Select the Layout tab from the Properties dialog box.
  4. From the Content overflow drop-down, select Clip.
  5. Click OK.

Workaround

If you do not want to upgrade y our document, you can disable the new optimized workflow and preserve 10.11 behavior by turning off the optimizeFitToPage flag. However, this is not recommended as the new enhancements from the optimizeFitToPage flag provide a better user experience.
To turn off the optimizeFitToPage flag, perform the following steps:

  1. Stop your Strategy Web Server.
  2. Create a backup of the files changed:
    <MSTR_WEB_HOME_PATH>/WEB-INF/xml/sys_defaults.xml.
  3. Move the backup files out of their original directory and place them in a separate archive location.
  4. Change the optimizeFitToPage value to
    0
    and save the .xml file:
<pr des="Enable performance improvements for fit to Page/Width in presentation mode. Default is 1; to disable set to 0" n="optimizeFitToPage" scp="system" v="0" dt="boolean"/>

  5. Start the Web Server.
  6. Clear your browser cache.
  7. Repeat these steps on every Strategy Web Server used in the cluster.
