An Error Message Appears in Command Manager When Altering the Bucketing Feature Flag

Community Admin

• Strategy

Bucketing allows a Distribution Services Subscription to deliver the same content to multiple users. The Intelligence Server will "bucket" the jobs together into a single execution, and re-use the results to deliver the jobs to all recipients at once instead of creating a separate job for each recipient. In MicroStrategy Command Manager 2019 and 2019 Update 1, there is a limitation where users are unable to modify the Bucketing Feature Flag. The current workaround is to upgrade to MicroStrategy2019 Update 2+ to ensure that Job bucketing is always enabled.

Symptom

After running the command “ALTER FEATURE FLAG "Bucketing" ON;” the query message window
will provide the messages: “Syntax is correct” and “Please provide a valid feature flag name”. However, the second message will appear with an X next to it:

Cause

This is limitation is caused by Command Manager in Strategy 2019+. This is also a regression as bucketing is no longer a feature flag in Strategy 2019.

Action

If the Strategy Enterprise was updated to 2019, the Bucketing Feature Flag settings will be retained from Strategy 11.0 and prior. If the Strategy Suite is a fresh installation, the Bucketing Feature flag will be disabled by default.
A code fix was implemented in Strategy 2019 Update 2 to change the job bucketing behavior to always be on. Upgrade to this version to take advantage of the fix.
