KB484700: An additional empty row is observed for a Derived Attribute

Paramjeet Sidhu

Quality Architect, Senior • MicroStrategy

In MicroStrategy 2020 with Data Engine version 12, when Analytical Engine null checking for the scalar function is set to “Treat Null As Zero”, DA defined based an equal operator with invalid value inputs returns invalid value outputs.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
Steps to Reproduce
The following example is conducted on Strategy 2020 with Data Engine 2020.
1. Create a Data Import cube with two rows of data and name it the attribute A.

2. Create a dossier based on the above cube.
3. Create a derived attribute called DA1 with the definition below to get in an invalid element due to calculation.

4. Create another derived attribute called DA2 with the definition below to use the invalid element as the input and the Equal operator.

5. Given Analytical Engine Null Checking setting is treat null as zero for scalar calculation, the DA2’s output is still an invalid value, shown as empty, when the input is invalid.

Solution
To resolve this defect, please upgrade to the Strategy 2020 Update1 or later release.
Now invalid inputs due to the calculation will be treated as zeros for the DA calculation where DA2 has valid values.
