Product Owner • MicroStrategy

This article details how to resolve the error " An error occurred while creating a default Metadata configuration." that appears when creating metadata using an Access database in the Configuration Wizard.

Symptom

In the Configuration Wizard, creating metadata using an Access database results in an error. The error reads:
An error occurred while creating default Metadata configuration.
(Database error <>: Execute Query failed.
Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. [HY000:-3035: on SQLHANDLE] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Operation must use an updateable query.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create an Access database and a DSN. For steps to create a DSN using the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator, see the Installation and Configuration Guide.
  2. Open the Configuration Wizard.
  3. Choose Create Metadata and check Metadata Only.
  4. Select the newly created DSN and click Next > Apply. Notice the error appears.

Cause

The reason the error appears is because the script file or the access file used to create the metadata shell is set to Read-Only.

Solution

To resolve the error, you must uncheck the Read-Only property in three places: the script file, access file, and DSN.

  • Locate the script file used to create the metadata.
