KB486163: "An error occurred while attempting to retrieve the error message for key 'DSDecryptError'" error when trying to connect to Google BigQuery, in MicroStrategy 2021 Update 9 and 10

Vanessa Munoz

Cloud Support Expert I • MicroStrategy

This article describes an issue that occurs when establishing an ODBC connection to Google BigQuery, in MicroStrategy 2021 Update 9 or 10.

SYMPTOM:
When trying to connect to Google BigQuery with service authentication, the following error appears in Strategy 2021 Update 9 and 10.
(Database error <5>: Connect failed. Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation
attempted: SQLDriverConnect. [HY000:-1: on SQLHANDLE] [Strategy][DSI]
An error occurred while attempting to retrieve the error message for key
'DSDecryptError' with message parameters ['The parameter is incorrect.']
and component ID 100: Message not found in file "C:\Program Files
(x86)\Common
Files\MicroStrategy\ODBC\BigQuery\en-US\SimbaBigQueryODBCMessages.xml")
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Create a DSN to connect to Google BigQuery with Service Authentication.
  2. In Strategy (Web, Workstation...) create a new data source to connect to the newly created DSN.
  3. Try to import tables from that data source: the error will appear.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue that occurs with the ODBC driver shipped with Strategy Updates 9 and 10. It does not happen when using the JDBC driver for Google BigQuery.
ACTION:
This issue has been fixed with the ODBC driver shipped with Strategy Update 11. Upgrade to this version in order to take advantage of the fix.
