KB483707: Attempting to Upload a MSTR File in MicroStrategy Produces the Error, "Cannot upload the dossier to I-Server because one cube is DDA to I-Server mode but corresponding cube is missing at I-Server side"

Attempting to Upload a .mstr file in MicroStrategy Produces the Error, "Cannot upload the dossier to I-Server because one cube is DDA to I-Server mode but corresponding cube is missing at I-Server side"

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description

When users try to upload a .mstr file in Strategy, they receive an error message.
The error message in MicroStratgy Web:

ka0PW0000001JipYAE_0EM2R000000mIIy.jpeg

The error message in MicroStratgy Workstation:

ka0PW0000001JipYAE_0EM2R000000mIJ3.jpeg

Why is this happening?

This is expected behavior. An in-memory cube is converted to a DDA-to-IServer cube during exporting due to one of the following reasons.

  • The cube file size exceeds the maximum allowed in the maximum allowed downloaded cube file setting.
  • It contains a dummy dataset, so Strategy does not export the cube instance.
  • There is a security filter applied to an attribute used in the cube. For security reasons, Strategy does not include the cube file with the .mstr file, because the cube file contains all data. The security filter is not applied to the cube file, but only applied during report or dossier execution.
  • The user does not have access to all objects in the cube.

Solution

  • If the file exceeds the maximum allowed downloaded cube file setting, increase it.
  • Upload the file to a project that contains the original cube or report.
  • Remove the security filter for the user or ask another user with access to download it. Use caution with this, as it may lead to users having unauthorized access to data, since there will be no security filter in the .mstr file.
  • Open the file in Workstation, which requires the user to connect to the original Intelligence server to fetch data.
