SYMPTOM:

After Installing Strategy 2019 Update 1, the Intelligence Server won't start. The error message says: The license has expired or is invalid.
For more information on this symptom, see KB483077.

SYSTEMS AFFECTED:

Systems that had an evaluation key that included both the Intelligence Server and the Reporter Server and were replaced with a license (Evaluation or Production) that contained only the Intelligence Server.

SOLUTION:

A global patch has been issued for applications on Strategy 2019 Update 1.

Patch application instructions

If issues are encountered in the patch application process, please contact Strategy Technical Support.
The instructions below refer to applications on top of Strategy 2019 Update 1.

Windows

  1. Download the patch attached to this Knowledge Base article.
  2. Backup the following files located in the Strategy Common Files directory (by default C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Strategy).
    • MALicMgr.jar
    • MMInst_64.dll
    • MMInst.DLL
    • MAInst.DLL
  3. Replace the files with the content in the patch.

If the system doesn't have a graphical interface or if the patch is going to be applied as a part of script deployment, the patch procedure can be trigger from the command line:

MALicMgr_64.exe -update

Linux

  1. Download the patch attached to this Knowledge Base article.
  2. Locate the files to patch, they are installed in the folder <MSTR_INSTALL_DIR> under the subdirectories lib and jar. Both files have symbolic links pointing to a versioned file.
    • MALicMgr.jar →  MALicMgr.jar.11.1.0000.0123MAL
    • libMAInst.so → libMAInst.so.11.1.0000.0123
  3. Delete the existing symbolic link.
  4. Extract the patch files into the corresponding directory.
  5. Launch License Manager by running
    mstrlicmgr
from the <MSTR_HOME_DIR>/bin directory or, for non-graphical environments, run the below command
