This knowledge base article explains why "Component `Comdlg32.ocx` or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid" error returns when attempting to create a new report using Report Builder in MicroStrategy Developer

SYMPTOM:
Users receive the error, "Component `Comdlg32.ocx` or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid" when attempting to create a new report using the Report Builder object template within Strategy Developer.

Component `Comdlg32.ocx` or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

CAUSE:
The Comdlg32.ocx file on the user's machine is an outdated version and may not have been updated properly during installation. It may also have been overwritten by other software installed on the machine.
 
ACTION:
Confirm that this problem does not occur on another Strategy Developer machine installed with the same version and copy the Comdlg32.ocx file from that machine onto the machine providing the error. This file can be located at C:\Windows\SysWOW64. It is necessary to register this file once it has been copied over to the machine.
