KB484377: The Create Links editor supports only unencoded URLs and using encoded URLs may lead to incorrect URLs

This article explains why only un-encoded URLs are supported when creating links, and not encoded URLs. This article also provides a workaround to result in the correct URL.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description

In a dossier, when creating a link, only un-encoded URLs are allowed. Using encoded URLs lead to the incorrect URL.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a dossier by importing a sample dataset.
  2. Use the Create Link function on an attribute.
  3. Enter the following encoded URL in the address field and click OK:
    https://Strategy.sharepoint.com/sites/InfoSys/Aqueduct/SitePages/Departmental%20Applications.aspx
  4. Click on the link attribute.
Observe 25 is appended in the above URL when opening in a browser.

Why is this happening?

By design, the inputted URL is presumed to be the raw URL without any encoding, to be correctly displayed. The raw URL is then encoded and stored in the metadata. During the rendering process, the encoded URLs are directly extracted and used to create links.

Workaround

Put the encoded URL in the link editor. Adding something like

%25
is called encoding URL and is used treat special characters like blank space, %, etc.
You should first decode the URL from any online website, like
https://www.urldecoder.org/
and then put the decoded URL into the create link field.
