KB483794: Custom shapes do not appear when viewing an ESRI visualization in the MicroStrategy Mobile app

Mengran (Molly) Wang

Senior Cloud Support Engineer III • MicroStrategy

This article details a possible solution to why custom shapes are not appearing on ESRI visualization when viewed on the MicroStrategy Mobile application.

Description

After configuring custom shapes for the ESRI visualization, the custom shapes appear correctly in Strategy Web and Strategy Library on the web and on an iPad. However, the custom shapes do not appear when viewing the ESRI visualization in the Strategy Mobile application.
For steps to render custom shapes, see the MicroStrategy Web Help .

Why is this happening?

It's possible that the mstrGeoShapesConfig.xml file contains the incorrect file path syntax to the .kml file.
If the file path in the

ml
parameter contains a
/
at the beginning, the Strategy Mobile app cannot identify the
ml
parameter. However, Strategy Web and Strategy Library can read the
/
at the beginning of the file path, which is why the shapes appear on those platforms.

Solution

To view the custom shapes in the Strategy Mobile app, ensure the

ml
parameter in the mstrGeoShapesConfig.xml file does not contains a
/
at the beginning of the file path.

  1. Open the mstrGeoShapesConfig.xml file.
  2. Locate the
    ml
parameter containing your .kml file. For example:

    <layer id="900" title="CustomShape" ml=/WEB-INF/xml/maps/<customshape>.kml>

  3. Modify the path to the .kml file to contain a
    /
    at the beginning. For example:

    <layer id="900" title="CustomShape" ml=WEB-INF/xml/maps/<customshape>.kml>

  4. Save the file.
