KB484966: Dossier fails to hit page cache causing re-execution against datasets to perform slowly

Danfeng Zhan

Principal Product Specialist • Strategy

This article explains why dossier execution may be slow when executing a dossier with more than 10 pages. This article also provides a solution and workaround to improve the dossier execution time.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description

In Strategy 2020 Update 2, dossiers intermittently fails to hit page cache, causing slow re-execution against the datasets in Strategy Library.
For example, not all page caches are generated for a dossier with 17 pages. You can see this behavior via Strategy Developer > Cache Monitor.

Why is this happening?

This behavior works as designed. Only 10 page caches are automatically generated for dossiers via Strategy Library. Initial execution of pages after the first 10 may experience slowness.

Solution

Certify the dossier via Strategy Workstation to allow a maximum of 20 page caches generated for each dossier.
For steps on certifying dossiers, see this documentation.

Workaround

Convert the page to chapter and select the Load the chapter on demand option. This improves the initial execution time.
For more details on the Load the chapter on demand option, see KB483871.
