KB85868: Drilling keeps the parent in MicroStrategy Library 2021, when using a Graph visualization.

Vanessa Munoz

Cloud Support Expert I • MicroStrategy

This article describes a behavior observed in MicroStrategy Library 2021, where after drilling in a Graph visualization, the parent is kept, despite having the setting "Keep parent while drilling" set to No.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
SYMPTOM
Drilling on a graph visualization keeps the parent in Strategy Library 2021, even though the configuration has been done to not keep the parent while drilling.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
These are the steps to reproduce in Strategy Tutorial:

  • Log to the project in Strategy Web
  • Make sure that in Web preferences, the "Keep parent while drilling" setting is set to No, as shown below:

  • Create a new dossier and add the following existing objects:
    • Month, Quarter and Year attributes
    • Profit metric
  • Create a vertical bar chart visualization and add Month and Profit. It should look as below:

  • Right mouse click on any of the bars and drill to Year. The Month attribute is not kept in the visualization:

  • Revert the changes from the previous step and open the dossier in Library. Drill to Year. The Month is kept:
