KB440998: Duplication of the metric icon within a Visual Insight/Dossier bar-type visualization occurs when a single data is shown in MicroStrategy 10.x

Carlos Pisonero Angulo

Customer Success Manager • MicroStrategy

This Knowledge Base Article describes an issue that has been classified as defect in MicroStrategy 10.x and fixed for the next upcoming releases when a bar-type visualization is used and a single data to show, thus duplicating the icon represented.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
SYMPTOM
Users are unable to display a single icon in a combined bar-type visualization.

This issue only occurs when the option “Line” or “Area” are selected. Changing the display to “Circle”, “Square” or “Tick” does not duplicate the icon.

Example with square:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a bar graph visualization.
2. Reduce the number of values in the horizontal axis to a single one.
3. Check how a smaller icon, besides the existing one exists.

CAUSE
This is an identified defect in 10.4 that has been fixed in the newer versions of Strategy.

A proof of that is the change of the visualization in the Graph Matrix.

ACTION
Newer versions of Strategy will include this enhancement in the Graph Matrix rendering visualization.
