Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
Dossier grid visualizations have an incremental fetching feature for rows, which allows for quick rendering, even when the attributes and metrics in them result in a query that returns thousands of rows. However, that is not the case for columns, which causes the performance of the entire dossier to suffer when you attempt to add many columns to the grid, or when you open a dossier that already contains many columns. In extreme cases, the entire dossier interface can become responsive.
To alleviate this problem, the Incremental Column Rendering feature was introduced in Strategy 2020 Update 1. This feature causes the grids to incrementally render columns, reducing the bottleneck and memory issues at the browser level. With this change, grids with hundreds of columns are displayed within seconds.
Incremental rendering works by only displaying data for the portion of the grid that is within scroll view, plus or minus a number of segments. Unlike rows where we have incremental fetching and rendering, for this fix, columns only have incremental rendering. This means that all columns are fetched when the dossier is initially opened, but only some number of columns are displayed within view.

Incremental Column Rendering is not enabled for Web dossier authoring. You can now open dossiers with large numbers of columns without causing a broswer crash.
Note: This feature is only applicable in Web dossier authoring in presentation modes, and is not applicable in Library Web.
