KB486240: Error "Invalid link" on the Android system when using a dossier with deep linking specified on "dossier.filters="

Gustavo Sulbaran

Product Specialist • MicroStrategy

This article indicates the situation in which the user when executing a dossier via schema “dossier://” that has the deep link feature and throws an error saying it is an Invalid link.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
PREREQUISITE:
Before starting with this article, it is assumed the user with the issue also has:

  1. correctly used https://www2.microstrategy.com/producthelp/Current/InstallConfig/en-us/Content/deep_link_to_library.htm and it works properly via the browser
  2. Without deep link, the dossier opens properly on the android device.
  3. In IOS the user has no issues using Deep link when combined with the url dossier schema

ISSUE:
The issue in this article references the usage of the specifically dossier.filters=
This feature works as expected in the IOS devices. Using the normal link that starts with the https:// or via URL scheme dossier:// or using the TinyURL
When the user tries this feature on his Android device, if he uses the normal link that starts with https:// it works as expected (after clicking “open” on the webpage) but; when trying to make the app to start via the URL scheme dossier:// It throws an error that mentions this is an invalid link.
If the user executes the dossier:// using the parameter “?url=” with the <dossierID+dossier.filters > next to it the invalid error message appears faster.
The last aspect about this is that if we remove the dossier.filters= parameter everything works as expected in the android device.
CAUSE:
The main cause for this issue is that current regex pattern for library android cannot match line terminators from a deep link.
The Library in Android will first decode the url before checking the url and it includes several line terminators then use regex to match library url pattern, this regex use * in the last to match all characters appended to the url, but it won't match line terminator, thus the check fails, and it becomes an invalid link.
ACTION:
This behaviour is currently under investigation, please contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on the status of this issue.
