Error “User request is queued. MsiUserInBox: Failed to persist the results of this message. Cannot save History list message because message size is greater than 4 GB” when running a Dossier in MicroStrategy Web

Mateus Salmeron

Senior Support Engineer • MicroStrategy

This article narrates the error that users may get when trying to run a Dossier in MicroStrategy Web.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Symptom

When trying to run a Dossier in Strategy Web, users may find the following error “User request is queued. MsiUserInBox: Failed to persist the results of this message. Cannot save History list message because message size is greater than 4 GB”:

Cause

The contents of a Dossier history list message are saved as a stream file. These stream (.strm) files are limited to a maximum size of 4GB. If the Dossier being sent to history list exceeds this size, the error message will be thrown and the history list message will not be created.

Action

Make that Dossier smaller, then it will be sent to the History list and executed successfully.
