KB486253: "Failed to migrate package" error appears when migrating a package between two environments, in MicroStrategy Workstation 2021

Vanessa Munoz

Cloud Support Expert I • MicroStrategy

This article documents an error message that appears when migrating packages between two environments in MicroStrategy Workstation 2021. A couple of approaches to fix it are provided.

SYMPTOM:
When migrating a package between environments, from Strategy Workstation migrations, the following error appears:

Failed to migrate package.
Connection to Azure fails. The Azure error code is BlobNotFound.
Please view the details in Log.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. In Strategy Workstation, connect to the source and target environments.
2. In the navigation pane, click Migrations.
3. Follow the steps indicated in our documentation to migrate a package to the target environment.
CAUSE:
This error typically happens when the source and target environments are not pointing to the same storage location. This particular error message refers to an Azure Blob storage, but the same could happen when using an AWS S3 bucket or a shared folder.
ACTION:
Both source and target environments should be pointing to the same storage location in order to be able to migrate packages. Another approach would be to have each environment pointing to a different location and move the package file manually to the target storage location prior to the migration.
