There were reports of crashes in the Open LDAP library, libldap_r.so, on the Linux platform. The crashes resulted in the shut down of the Intelligence Server or the restart of the Intelligence Server. A common factor in these cases was that the setting use LDAP connection pool was enabled. This settings shares one LDAP connection handler in multiple threads. Unfortunately, libldap_r.so does not handle multiple thread situations well. As such, turning off the setting to use LDAP connection pool prevents the Intelligence Server from crashing or restarting.
Beginning in Strategy 2020 Update 1, when the Intelligence Server is running on Linux and libldap_r.so is used as the LDAP connectivity library, the setting to use LDAP connection pool is ignored and the LDAP connection is not re-used among LDAP authorizations.
Beginning 2020 Update 1, Strategy recommends turning the use LDAP connection pool setting off when libldap_r.so is used on the Linux platform.
To turn off this setting, you can use Strategy Workstation or Developer.
In Developer, you can disable this setting using the Intelligence Server Configuration window or using the LDAP Connectivity Wizard.
Note: This only applies to the Intelligence Server running on the Linux platform when openldap library is used as the LDAP connectivity library.
There is no change on the Intelligence Server running on Windows, where Windows ADS SDK is used as the LDAP connectivity library, since no crashes have been reported when the setting is on.
To enable this setting on the Linux platform, perform the following steps on the Linux machine where the Intelligence Server is running.
Note: It is not recommend to turn on the use LDAP connection pool setting on the Linux platform when openldap library is used as LDAP connectivity library.
MSTR_USE_LDAP_CONNECTION_POOL, with any value.
If you turn on the use LDAP connection pool setting in this manner, you can turn of the setting by deleting the environment variable.
