How to Connect to Relational Databases with MicroStrategy Desktop (Video)

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This video walks through how to connect to a relational database in MicroStrategy Desktop 10.x

This tutorial video explains how to import data from a relational database as a Dataset into Strategy Desktop. Strategy Desktop provides the ability to connect to a wide variety of relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Teradata, SAP HANA, Netezza, IBM Db2, Microsoft Access, etc. You can specify whether you will be importing your database tables by building a SQL query using a graphical interface, typing a free-form query or just picking relational tables. The video provides step by step instructions on how to create a new connection either using an existing DSN Data Source stored in your local machine or by connecting directly using the DNS-less Data Source option. After setting up a database connection, the user can select the tables needed to build dashboards and visualizations in Strategy Desktop.
