How to Resolve a "Conflicting versions of DMBS..." Error in MicroStrategy 2019

Lisha Ma

Senior Cloud Support Engineer III • MicroStrategy

This article outlines how to resolve a "Found two conflicting versions of DBMS..." error when editing a dataset for your dossier in MicroStrategy 2019.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description

After upgrading to Strategy 2019, when editing a dataset for a dossier you may run into a notification that asks if you want to continue editing your dataset (Edit Dataset) or keep changes local (Keep Changes Local).

If you select Keep Changes Local the following error may appear:

ka0PW0000001JX2YAM_0EM2R000000gwni.jpeg

To reproduce one of the scenarios that causes this error message:

  1. Create an 11.0 and 11.1 environment.
  2. Create two cubes based on databases on the 11.0 environment.
  3. Create a new dossier based on the two cubes.
  4. Export the dossier and cubes as an mmp file, and add all of the dependency elements.
  5. Import the mmp file to the 11.1 environment.
  6. Copy the cube caches from 11.0 environment to 11.1 environment.
  7. Ensure that the MD has been updated.

Cause

This error message is caused when two cube instances contain two different versions of the DBMS. After upgrading to Strategy 2019, the driver shipped by Strategy is also updated. So when trying to keep changes local, the server will try to duplicate the real cube instance.

Action

To resolve this error, republish the cube based on this database instance. KB483212
