KB442489: How to configure MicroStrategy Desktop to connect to Amazon Redshift when cluster parameter group is set to require SSL

Cesar Carlos Calderon Muro

Senior Support Engineer • Strategy

This Tutorial describes how to connect MicroStrategy Desktop to an Amazon Redshift data source when the last has the cluster parameter group set to require SSL.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
Pre-requisites:

  1. An Amazon Redshift data warehouse has been created and it's reachable from the machine using Strategy Desktop (you can verify this by using tools like telnet, nmap...).
  2. When configuring the Redshift cluster, the cluster parameter group is set to "require SSL"

ACTION:

  • Open Strategy Desktop, click on new Dossier, click on New Data and select Redshift.
  • After landing on the page showing the Data Sources, click on the "+" icon on the right corner to create a new Data Source.

  • To be able to connect to the Redshift warehouse using SSL, you need to click on Edit Connection String and replace the default value with the following:
    • JDBC;DRIVER={com.Strategy.jdbc.redshift.RedshiftDriver};URL={jdbc:Strategy:redshift://xxxx.xxxx.xxxxx:5439;DatabaseName=test;EncryptionMethod=SSL;ValidateServerCertificate=false;}
