KB484135: How to solve the error, “Metadata is required to be backed up,” for MSTRBak-Client

Description

When running the MSTRBak-Client v1 or higher, you may encounter the following error and experience a stall in the mstrbak client process from taking a backup of the cloud environment.
Metadata is required to be backed up

Why is this happening?

This error is caused only when using the client in the default mode. In the default mode,

DBMigrator

is used to get a SQL dump for both MySQL and Postgres and it requires

mysql-connector-java.8x.jar.

If the version of the driver is lower than 8x, it will throw the error.

Solution

Dump mode on a 2019 environment

If you are backing up a 2019 environment and want to restore another 2019 environment, use the dump mode (-d flag).
Run it as:

./mstrbak -d

 

Default DbMigrator mode 

You should download the 

mysql-connector-java-8.0.12.jar

file and place it anywhere. 
Prompted Mode
If you are using prompted mode, specify the path of the MySQL connector driver when prompted for the MySQL driver path: 

 
Silent Mode
If you are using silent mode, update the key

mysql

in

driver-paths

with the MySQL connector driver path in the response file.
