How to specify the database name and other settings for Collaboration Server database in a custom database instance

Ramses Castro Cabrera

MicroStrategy’s collaboration capabilities allow teams, departments, and organizations to boost analytics adoption via interactive discussion threads and an intuitive comments panel. With real-time alerts, notifications, and easily shared personalized views, users have a holistic view of their business and benefit from enhanced teamwork. As a part of MicroStrategy software, the Collaboration Server needs its proper configuration.

KB486109SYMPTOM:

While creating a Collaboration Server database in a PostgreSQL or MySQL database instance, the setup wizard generates by default the repository in the database called mstr_collab. Unfortunately, this option cannot be changed in Wizard as it is set by default among others in the configuration file config.json. Please refer to the documentation for a better context understanding.

ACTION:

As you may see in the documentation named above, there are no specific fields for the database name modification in the config.json file. There is present, however, the port and the dataSource objects, and this last one contains fields such as username, password, host, etc.

This is an example of default options:

{

    "port": 3000,

    "authorizationServerUrl": "http://localhost:8080/MicroStrategyLibrary/api",

    "dataSource": {

        "username": "mstr_collab",

        "password": "123456789asdfghjkl”

    },

    "scaling": "none",

    "secretKey": "abcdef",

    "enableConfigApi": true

}

If it is wished to change the mstr_collab database name to a custom name, it is just would be needed to add databaseName to the data Source object along with other database information in the config.json file following the format of the other properties of the object.

"dataSource": {

        “databaseName”: “myPersonalDatabaseName”,

        "port": 56353,

        "host": "nameOfTheHost",

        "username": "theUserName ",

        "password": "123456789asdfghjkl”

    },

Note: If and error pointing to an error reading the JSON configuration file as the following:

[root@user1234]# tail collabsvr_nodejs.log [yyy.mm.dd hh.mm.ss] Unable to read JSON configuration file: /opt/####/###/MSTI/MicroStrategy/CollaborationServer/config.json. File does not contain valid field: port (56353): must be a integer $ node /opt/####/###/MSTI/MicroStrategy/CollaborationServer/node_modules/mstr-collab-svc/server.js config-file: JSON file with configuration information

Please verify that the port number is not written as e.g., "56353". Please remove the quotation marks as it may be taken as a string. It should be "port": 56353 to make it work.
