KB483669: In MicroStrategy Web, opening a document containing another document in an iFrame does not execute properly

Michael Ostrich

Lead Support Engineer - Austin • MicroStrategy

This article explains why an iFrame may not work correctly in a document in MicroStrategy Web and how to resolve the problem.

Description

After enabling the two security settings Prevent clickjacking by adding a frame-breaking script to pages and Prevent clickjacking by adding an X-Frame-Options, iFrames do not display correctly in a document.
For example, say you have two documents, document A and document B. Document B is located in an iFrame within document A; however, when document A is executed, document B automatically opens and document A is closed.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. In the Web Admin page, navigate to the Security tab.
  2. Under Other, select the Prevent clickjacking by adding a frame-breaking script to pages and Prevent clickjacking by adding an X-Frame-Options checkboxes.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Open a document containing an iFrame. Unexpected iFrame behavior occurs.

Why is this happening?

The reason the iFrame is not behaving as expected is because the settings Prevent clickjacking by adding a frame-breaking script to pages and Prevent clickjacking by adding an X-Frame-Options are enabled.

Solution

To resolve this issue, navigate to the Web Admin page and unchecking the  Prevent clickjacking by adding a frame-breaking script to pages and Prevent clickjacking by adding an X-Frame-Options checkboxes.
