This article addresses the generation of incorrect SQL when inserting into Google BigQuery in MicroStrategy 2019. This article also provides a solution and workaround to avoid this error.

Description

Incorrect SQL is generated when inserting into Google BigQuery on Strategy 2019. The target tables are duplicated in the insert statement as shown below:
Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. [42000:70: on SQLHANDLE] [Strategy][BigQuery] (70) Invalid query: Syntax error: INSERT target cannot have an alias at [1:28] Connection String: DSN=xxx;UID=xxx@xxx;. SQL Statement: insert into TX6DW48ZMOP000 TX6DW48ZMOP000 values (143, 'Leslie').

Why is this happening?

This is a known issue in Strategy 2019.

Solution

This issue has been fixed in Strategy 2020. Upgrade to this version or later to take advantage of the fix.

Workaround

  1. Remove the following line from the
    DATABASE.PDS
    file under Google BigQuery:
    <PROPERTY NAME="Insert Into Values Pattern" VALUE="insert into #0 #1 values (##0)" />

  2. Upgrade the database connection type using Developer. For instructions on how to perform the upgrade, see KB38428: How to re-load the 'DATABASE_Hive0.7x.PDS' object in MicroStrategy 9.2.1.
