JDK Requirements on MicroStrategy Web 10.8

Raul de Leon

Product Owner, Principal • MicroStrategy

MicroStrategy Web 10.8 now enforces JDK 1.7 or above.

Strategy Web 10.8 now requires JDK 1.7 or above.

Support for JDK 1.6 was officially dropped in version 10.4 (see readme), but as a transitional measure it was allowed to be used. However, starting in version 10.8, Strategy Web is compiled using 1.7, which means that it will not be compatible with environments using JDK 1.6.

The change was made because Oracle has determined that JDK 1.6 has reached its “End of Life”.

While Strategy Web still runs in JDK 1.7, in line with the industry best practices, we encourage customers to use the latest Java (1.8 at the time of this writing) as recommended by Oracle.
