KB10310: Why is the currently selected Page-by element retained by default when a report is saved in MicroStrategy Developer?

Users notice that the currently selected Page-by element is retained as the default when a report is saved in Strategy Developer. Perform the following steps to reproduce this behavior:

1. Execute a Page-by report in Strategy Developer.
2. Change the Page-by element in the Report Editor Grid view.
3. Save and close the report.
4. Re-execute the report. The result grid displayed is paged by the last page-by selection made before the report was saved.

By design, the page-by element currently selected is retained as the default when a page-by report is saved. In Strategy Developer, users can specify at the project level and individual report level to not retain the current selection when saving a report.
 
At the project level:

• Launch the project Configuration Editor.
• In the Categories pane, expand Report Definition and select Advanced, as shown below:
  

• Uncheck the "Retain page-by selection when you save a report" option.

At the report level:

• Edit the Page-by report in Strategy Developer.
• Select "Report data options" from the Report editor Data menu.
• In the "Report data options" window, expand the General category and under 'Advanced' select Page By
  

• Change the "Retain page-by selection when you save this report" parameter to "No."

In Strategy Developer, this setting change can be made simultaneously to a number of page-by reports using the "Find and Replace" feature.
