KB10371: When expanding the system hierarchy, users receive error message "Object ID 'XXXXX' and type 12(attribute) is not found in metadata. It may have been deleted." in MicroStrategy Developer.

This article describes error "Object ID 'XXXXX' and type 12(attribute) is not found in metadata. It may have been deleted." in MicroStrategy Developer, when expanding the system hierarchy.

SYMPTOM:
When users attempt to open the system hierarchy, the following error message appears:
Object with ID "XXXXX" and type 12 (attribute) is not found in metadata. It may have been deleted.
CAUSE:
This error occurs as a result of an inconsistency in the metadata. In order to track down the cause of the inconsistency, customers encountering this issue should make note of Schema-related changes, Object Migrations, or error messages prior to experiencing the problem.  Change Journaling, if it has been enabled, can help in preserving this information.

ACTION:
To resolve this issue, backup the metadata and run Scan MD.

For information on installing and running Scan MD, see KB483179: Using ScanMD to fix known logical metadata inconsistencies in the MicroStrategy Product Suite 2019 and later.

While running Scan MD, search for the following error and choose to fix it:
Error Type 1: Error : # 0x8004140B was generated by DSSMetadataServer.DSSMetadataServer.1 Object with ID '{Object_ID}' and type 12 (Attribute) is not found in metadata. It may have been deleted. Dimension {Hierarchy Name}'s item {#} () refers to a missing Attribute. Recommended action to fix the problem: Remove item {#} () that refers to a missing Attribute from Dimension {Hierarchy Name}
This error indicates that the hierarchy referenced in the Scan MD error message contains a reference to an attribute that has been deleted from the metadata. Accepting the Scan MD fix will remove the attribute reference from the hierarchy.

Note: The following Strategy Knowledge Base document provides details about the other checks performed by Scan MD:
