PAE is an Intel architecture specific memory address extension that enables the support of more than 4GB of physical memory. 32 bit Microsoft Server products can be informed of this capability by the use of the /PAE - see the Microsoft Knowledgebase Article: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEdrv.mspx. The Physical Address Extension (PAE) switch is a different concept from a 3GT switch (alternatively referred to as a 4GT switch). Using the /PAE switch allows the Operating System to access upto 64 GB of physical memory, thus increasing application performance through limited paging. However simply using the /PAE switch will have no effect on the address space available to Strategy applications. To be able to allow the Strategy Intelligence Server access more than 2 GB of available memory, the 3GT switch must be enabled for the Windows Operating System. The Strategy Intelligence Server process is not coded to take advantage of the PAE switch; however, it is coded to take advantage of the 3GT switch.

The Strategy Intelligence Server is not tested explicitly with the /PAE switch enabled. However in general users may expect better performance on such systems as the additional memory available to the operating system will reduce the need to access virtual memory on disk.
