SYMPTOM:
Users notice that no statistics are written to the statistics database for certain periods of time when the statistics database is Teradata. Entries similar to the following can be found in the DSS DatabaseClasses.log file (enabled via Diagnostics > Advanced > DSS DatabaseClasses > Database errors):
4116:The database execution thread hung.. Connection String:DSN=STATS_ON_TERADATA;UID=MSTR_STATS;. SQL Statement:
CAUSE:
When defining a Teradata ODBC DSN, a list of several Teradata Servers (nodes) can be specified in the ODBC DSN definition:

It was found that the hanging database execution thread issue occurs when a node is included in the DSN configuration which is active but does not listen on the database port for any incoming communications.
ACTION:
Together with the DBA, check that all nodes listed in the ODBC DSN are active and are configured to listen for communication on the database port. If these criteria are not met, the node should be removed from the ODBC DSN definition.
NOTE:
Statistics settings are startup parameters. After changing any statistics settings it is recommended to restart Strategy Intelligence Server for the new settings to take effect.
