KB10670: An ODBC DSN that has been added manually in the odbc.ini file on a UNIX machine does not appear in the MicroStrategy ODBC Administrator editor in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server Universal.

An ODBC DSN that has been added manually in the odbc.ini file on a UNIX machine does not appear in the MicroStrategy ODBC Administrator editor in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server Universal.

SYMPTOM:
An ODBC DSN that has been added manually in the ODBC.ini does not appear in the Strategy ODBC Administrator editor in Strategy Intelligence Server Universal 9.x, nor will it be available for selection in the Strategy DB Query tool.

CAUSE:
In Strategy Intelligence Server Universal 9.x, an ODBC DSN cannot be created directly in the interface through the mstrodbcadx for all databases (see documentation for more information about which databases and what steps to take). A DSN for such a database must be manually added to the odbc.ini file. If the added DSN does not appear for selection after this, a possible reason is that the syntax in the odbc.ini file is incorrect.

ACTION:
Check the odbc.ini file for errors. One possible reason for the DSN not appearing is that newly created DSN names should be listed in the section. If it is missing there, the tool will not be able to find the DSN name and fail to display it although its properties have been defined. The following is an example of how this will appear with a Teradata DSN added to an existing Oracle DSN. For all of the steps and the remaining syntax for the Teradata DSN, refer to the Product Manual - Installation and Configuration Guide.
