KB10673: "Cannot save, move or copy this [object] because it has been changed in the Metadata" error message appears in MicroStrategy Desktop when attempting to update schema in a 3-tier environment.

"Cannot save, move or copy this [object] because it has been changed in the Metadata" error message appears in MicroStrategy Desktop when attempting to update schema in a 3-tier environment.

SYMPTOM:
When attempting to update schema in 3-tier, the following error message appears:

ka0PW000000109FYAQ_0EM440000002Frq.jpeg

Cannot save, move or copy this because it has been changed in the Metadata.
CAUSE:
This issue occurs because of inconsistent object definitions in the Strategy Intelligence Server memory between 2-tier and 3-tier environments. The error message indicates a modification to an object was made in 2-tier, but the change is not reflected in 3-tier since the Intelligence Server was not re-started.

This can be confirmed if the update schema does not display an error in 2-tier.

ACTION:
Purge the object, element and report caches. Then, update the schema in 2-tier and then in 3-tier.
In some cases, if purging the caches and updating schemas does not remove the error message, re-starting the Strategy Intelligence Server can resolve this issue. This will make all object definitions consistent within the two environments.

NOTE: For best practices, when performing a project merge in two-tier mode, unload the projects in 3-tier mode or shut down Strategy Intelligence Server.
