KB10736: "The object <Object Name> could not be deleted" error message appears when attempting to delete an object from MicroStrategy Workstation, but no dependents are identified by search

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

User is prevented from deleting an object because other objects depend on it, but the dependency search does not identify any objects.

Symptom

When attempting to delete an object, error: "The object <Object Name> could not be deleted" is received:

ka0PW00000011V7YAI_0EMPW000004Hp2D.jpeg

Error: "The object <Object Name> could not be deleted"
(Metric (Type: <Object Type>) object '<Object name>' (ID: <Object GUID>) cannot be deleted because other objects depend on it.)

If selects 'View Dependents' to search for dependents, the dependency search does not identify any objects, as shown below:

Cause

This issue may occur because the user performing the dependency search is not listed in the Access Control List (ACL) of the dependent objects. The Depends dialog in Strategy Workstation will not display any objects for which the user does not have at least browse permissions.

Action

Run the dependency check with a user that has the "Bypass all object security checks" privilege to get the correct list of depend objects.
