How to create a 3-D Scatter Graph in MicroStrategy Developer

The 3-D scatter graph is found under the graph style: Scatter > X-Y-Z Scatter Chart.

To set up a 3-D scatter graph, the template must consist of the following:

  • at least one attribute (More attributes can be used as each row will be its own data point.)
  • at least three metrics

An example report with the same characteristics is shown below:

  • Metric 1(Revenue) is for the Z-Axis
  • Metric 2(Units Sold) is for the X-Axis
  • Metric 3(Profit) is for the size of the Y-Axis

The Axis is set up as follows:

Below is the graphical representation of the grid:

To have the attributes shown as the data markers, change the series to Set Series By Rows:

Below is the resulting graph:

To change the layout of the walls, in the top menu bar, go to Graph > 3-D Settings:

To change other properties, go to Graph > Graph Options:

  • the Marker Shape and Size is on the General tab
  • the Grid Lines are on the Display Status tab
  • the Labels are located on the Look tab
