How to prevent a user from gaining access to a MicroStrategy report but still grant them access to a document that uses the report

This example shows how to grant a user access to a document which uses a report that the user is unable to access.

  • Create a folder to store the report.
  • Right-click on the report and add the 'Everyone' group (or the user's name) under the 'Security' tab. Users must at least have the View privilege to see the report when the document is executed:

  • Right-click on the folder where the report is stored and change the privileges so that the Everyone group has 'Denied All' access to the folder.

If there are specific users that should not have access to the report, these users' names can be added individually here. In the example shown below, the Developers group will be able to access the report folder:

  • When the Administrator logs in, both the report folder and the document will be visible:

Now, when the user logs in, they will be able to see and execute the document as long as they have View access to the document and the appropriate privileges. Note, however, that they will be unable to see or access the folder where the report is stored.
