How can a hyperlink be created from one MicroStrategy Report Services Document to another so that it opens in a new window?

It is possible to create a hyperlink from one Report Services Document to another document by creating a direct hyperlink (by right-clicking on the text box and choosing 'Properties'). However, this hyperlink will be open in the same browser and the users will lose capability to go back and view the first document.
Instead, using the following workaround, it is possible to open the second Report Services Document in a new browser. Although Adobe Acrobat Reader does not support opening a new instance of PDF document in a new browser, this workaround will enable this functionality:

  1. In the first Report Services Document, replace the link to the Report Services document with the link to the custom HTML file (for example, http://webservername/MicroStrategy/opennewwindow.htm).

    The custom HTML file will have the following structure:
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" content="0;URL=URL_of_the_first_Report_Services_Document">
    <SCRIPT>
    window.open("http://URL_of_the second_Report_Services_Document");
    </SCRIPT>
    </HEAD>
    </HTML>
  2. Place this custom HTML file in the Web ASPx folder (or an HTML folder).

NOTE: Refreshing the content of the first browser requires the first Report Services Document to be re-executed. If caching is disabled, it may have negative impact on Strategy Intelligence Server performance.
