KB11879: How to resolve the data segment size warning message while starting MicroStrategy Intelligence Server Universal on AIX

Community Admin

• Strategy

"WARNING: maximum data segment size (heap) 131072 is low; please increase to 524288 or greater." appears when attempting to start MicroStrategy Intelligence Server Universal on an AIX operating system.

Users attempting to start Strategy Intelligence Server Universal on an AIX operating system obtain the following Strategy warning message:

WARNING: maximum data segment size (heap) 131072 is low; please increase to 524288 or greater.
The Strategy Intelligence Server Universal will start up normally after displaying this message. However users running in this configuration may see the Intelligence Server reject requests because of the low memory limit.

It is recommended that users increase the heap limit and physical memory limits for the account under which the Intelligence Server will run. The suggested values for these parameters is 'unlimited' to allow the Intelligence Server process to optimally use all the available machine resources. To increase the data segment size to unlimited, use the AIX ulimit command as follows:

ulimit -d unlimited
To increase the ulimit settings for the physical memory use the command:

ulimit -m unlimited
