KB12077: Percentage values on the Y-axis of a graph are displayed incorrectly on a PDF document when reports in graph view are exported to PDF in MicroStrategy 10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

Percentage values on the Y-axis of a graph are displayed incorrectly on a PDF document when reports in graph view are exported to PDF. For example, the percentage values are displayed as 0 instead of 0.24 and as 1 instead of 0.5.

SYMPTOM:
Percentage values on the Y-axis of a graph are displayed incorrectly on a PDF document when reports in graph view are exported to PDF. For example, the percentage values are displayed as 0 instead of 0.24 and as 1 instead of 0.5.

Steps to Reproduce:
Use the Strategy Tutorial project to reproduce the issue by completing the following steps:

  • Create a report using the 'Quarter' attribute, 'Units Sold' metric, 'Last Year's Units Sold' metric, 'Profit Margin' metric and 'Last Year's Profit Margin' metric as shown in the image below:

  • Execute the report in Strategy Developer, and change it to Graph view by selecting "Graph View" from the View menu as shown in the image below:

  • Select "Data" from the menu bar, choose "Export to", and select "PDF File" to export the graph to PDF as shown in the image below:
ka02R000000kc3EQAQ_0EM440000002Fie.jpeg
  • Notice that on the second page of the PDF document, the percentage values on the Y-axis of the graph are displayed as 0 as shown in the image below:
ka02R000000kc3EQAQ_0EM440000002Fic.jpeg

CAUSE:
Strategy Developer sets the Category for Y1 Axis values to Automatic. Thus, if the graph present in the document requires non-decimal values in its Y1 axis, the percentage values will also change to non-decimal values and will display as either 0 or 1.

ACTION:
To workaround this issue, perform the following steps:

  • In Strategy Developer, display the report in graph view, and select Grids and Scales from the Graph menu as shown in the image below:

  • Select the Y1 Axis tab on the left of the Numeric Axis Grids & Scales window. Then, select the Numbers tab on the top of the window as shown in the image below:

  • From the Category drop-down list, select "General" and click "OK" as shown in the image below:

  • Export the report to PDF
  • The percentage values are now displayed accurately in the PDF document as seen in the image below:
