KB12277: Why do User Preferences take precedence over Project Defaults in MicroStrategy Web 9.x and higher?

Community Admin

• Strategy

Project Defaults are accessible only to administrative users while User Preferences are a subset of the Project Defaults and are accessible to MicroStrategy Web users.

Strategy Web preferences can be set at two levels:

  • Project Defaults which are set by the Administrator and shown in the image below:

  • User Preferences which are selected on a user-by-user basis and shown in the image below:

Project Defaults are accessible only to administrative users while User Preferences are a subset of the Project Defaults and are accessible to Strategy Web users. These preferences are intended for users so that they can modify settings based on individual requirements. For a setting that is present as a Project default as well as a User Preference, the User Preference will take precedence.
