KB12283: When exporting a grid and graph report, the grid is exported correctly but the graph is exported as a red "X" in MicroStrategy Web 10.x

When exporting a grid and graph report, the grid is exported correctly but the graph is exported as a red "X" in MicroStrategy Web 10.x

SYMPTOM:
When exporting a grid and graph report, the grid is exported correctly but the graph is exported as a red "X" in Strategy Web 10.x. This scenario may have occurred when a user has recently upgraded from older version Strategy Web and has been using fully-qualified name for the machine DNS name.

CAUSE:
In Strategy Web 10.x, a graph is exported as a link to an object. This link contains the web server machine name, which may not be accessible by the client machine where the export is performed.

ACTION:
The Web.xml file allows the machine name to be configured to use a fully-qualified name. By default the following xml node is commented out:

<!-- Other parameters that are available for customization
<context-param>
<param-name>configServletPath</param-name>
<param-value />
</context-param> -->
The fully-qualified name can be obtained by right-clicking My Computer -> Properties -> Network Identification tab, as shown below:

In order to point the web server to use the fully-qualified machine name, follow the steps below:

  1. Change the node in web.xml file to include a value to point to the fully-qualified name and the servlet folder, "asp", as shown below:
    <context-param>
    <param-name>configServletPath</param-name>
    <param-value>http://<fully-qualified machine dns name> /MicroStrategy/asp/</param-value>
    </context-param>
  2. Restart the IIS.
