KB12404: Web Log files are no longer generated on the directory located at \Program Files\MicroStrategy\Web ASPx\WEB-INF\log after a user disables write permissions on the MicroStrategy Web virtual directory in MicroStrategy Web 9.x and 10.x

SYMPTOM:
Web Log files are no longer generated on the directory located at <Installation Folder>\Program Files\MicroStrategy\Web ASPx\WEB-INF\log after a user disables write permissions on the Strategy Web 9.x and 10.x virtual directory.
 
This does not happen to virtual directories created by the installation wizard. In the scenerio where this symptom is generated, the virtual directory is created on IIS to deploy Strategy Web 9.x and 10.x ASPX.
 
CAUSE:
The ASPNET user needs to have permission to write to the log files in the log directory.
 
ACTION:

• Assign write permission for the ASPNET user on the virtual directory.
• If the user has to disable Write Permission on the virtual directory, log files should be configured to be created on other directories and ASPNET users should be given write permissions on that directory. From the Strategy Web Administrator page >> Diagnostics >> Configuration, assign the new location of the logging directory, as shown in the image below:
